Greetings Scrollers,
Whistles are a fun project that can be used as a safety tool for kayakers or hikers and make an excellent way to announce lunch time at our Toy Group lunches. At the last SIG several people made whistles, but not all finished. At the March 11th SIG we will work on completing any unfinished projects and as always you are welcome to bring your own project.
Applying finish to a completed project varies on how the project will be used. It can be as simple as spraying on a clear lacquer, or oiling the project. We will discuss and explore this at the next SIG.
Following the line is something we constantly strive to improve. Early in my scrolling experience I wondered if I should be concentrating on going straight down the middle or to go to the left or the right of the line. Depending on what you are doing, you will use all 3 of these techniques. Of course following the line and not getting off track is an acquired skill. As I am sure I have told many of you most of the time it does not matter if you get off the line as long as you don’t make a drastic correction to get back on the line. That is very noticeable where if you gradually get back on the line no one will know once you take the pattern off. In some instances where you have to put 2 pieces cut separately together afterwards it is much more critical.
For the Wednesday, March 11th, SIG we will be catching up. The SIG starts at 2:00 pm and if you would prefer to work on a different project please arrive early so we can prep your stock for your project before the SIG starts.
Looking forward to seeing you all there.
